Symptoms / signs of anger

When we feel anger (whether we choose to express it or not), we may notice physical and mental changes in our bodies including:

  • Tight chest
  • Racing heart
  • Tense muscles
  • Feeling hot and sweaty
  • Inability to see clearly
  • Feeling resentment
  • Feeling out of control

Experiencing anger is normal; it all comes down to how we manage the emotions and rage that we feel. This is important to not hurt or damage our own mental and physical wellbeing, nor those of others. Signs that our anger is out of control include:

  • Physically hurting ourselves or others
  • Verbally attacking ourselves or others
  • Distracting ourselves by engaging in unhealthy behaviours such as drugs, alcohol or smoking
  • Suppressing our emotions as we are overwhelmed by our feelings of anger
  • Using anger as our go-to emotion, meaning we don’t feel any other emotion and are constantly angry

These behaviours can not only affect us, but also our relationships with others including our families, friends, partners and children.

Our treatment approach

If you're struggling to find a way to control your anger, find you are constantly angry or find yourself stuck in destructive behaviour we can help with talking therapy and / or consider medication for any underlying mental health condition.

How we can help you

We can help you change your own reaction by suggesting a range of both medical treatments and talking therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy. This can be useful to help understand our own thoughts and behaviours contributing to your distress and help to lift your mood by changing the cycle of negative thinking.
